The Best Day Trips To Ourika Valley

The Ourika Valley starts about 40 km south of Marrakech heading towards the Atlas mountains, and Ourika is a typical region of High Atlas Mountains.
The day program includes the visit to a Berber family to understand more about the daily routine of this Moroccan indigenous population. The host will perform the mint tea cerimony, the national hot drink enjoyed several times during the day, basically an aggregative ritual among family members, friends, and visitors.
The trip then continues towards Setti Fatma and its famous seven waterfalls. You can certainly climb all of them but after the first one the climbing becomes more challenging and besides climbing experience proper gear is also recommended.
The village of Setti Fatma is without doubt very pleasant to visit and lunch will be certainly enjoyed in one of the many and amazing open-air Berber restaurants which border the river’s sides, where food is deliciuos and the ambiance relaxed, and where the locals mingles with the tourists to experience a genuine and unforgettable Moroccan meal!

THE TOP THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN OURIKA VALLEY

Setti Fatma

Setti Fatma. Originally a Berber settlement, it now primarily caters to tourists. This is also the entry point for the Setti Fatma Falls, a multi-level waterfall that can be climbed. Start early to beat the hottest temperatures of the day and be sure to carry a bottle of water. While the route is easy to follow, some parts can be quite challenging—especially when it involves scrambling up and over slick rocks, so wear sensible shoes. Each level offers different views, and the overhanging trees provide plenty of shaded nooks to sit and relax amid the sounds of tinkling water, excitable chatter, twittering birds, and clacking insects.

Restaurants and cafés along the river

There are many restaurants and cafés along the river in Setti Fatma, ideal for a spot of lunch or a refreshing drink after hiking. Indeed, some of the tables and chairs sit directly in the shallows for patrons to soak their feet in the chilly gushing waters. Cross rickety-rope bridges, pick the perfect spot and dig into a tagine, flavourful fresh salad or brochette as the flowing waters soothe feet and souls alike.

Hiking along the river

could spend the afternoon rafting or kayaking along the river. Alternatively, set off on a gentle hike through the countryside, admire the lush greenery of the valley and the quaint Berber villages that speckle the landscapes.
